The damage and :conomic loss caused by Rats are very considerable indeed, for the City of New York alcne the damage is calculated at $35,000,000 a year. t laking another example, assuming that there are at the least 50,000 Rats in St. Croix (at a conservaiive es.imate) it will be seen by a simple caleulation that these Rodents must spoil and eat food to tne value of $500.00 a day at lec. pr. Rat—besides considerable damage to buildings ete.— . In adddition hereto the Rats have proved to be the principal agents in the dissemination of both Bubonic Plague and Thrichinosis and they play an im- portant part in the spreading of Tuber- culosis (also poultry Tuberculosis) as well as foot and mouth disease and other con- tagious diseases, : Another serious aspect of the rat trou- bie is their enormous fecundity. The progeny of one pair of Rats amounts -to no fewer than 800 a year—- and realizing the great cupning of the rat as well as its migratory habits, it will be evident that no complete extermi- nation of these Rodents will ever be ac- compished by means of traps or poisons ete. A well know Nanish Bacteriologist and Seientist discovered a Bacilla in 1903, the eulture of which, in the form of a preparation, now well known as “"RA- TIN?”’, is harmless to human beings and domestic animals and has been proven to answer the other requirements. The bacterial culture "‘RATIN’’ caus- es coniagwus and mortal disease in rats, and the baits prepared with it are eaten freely even greedily by the ro- dentcs, the baits are prepared simply by pouring the Ratin :culture over White Bread. The Ratin bactertal culture is there- fore the best, the most reliable ard sci- entific remedy to adopt for the exter- mination of Rats and Mice, Further information about “"RATIN” can be had at Frederiksted Apothecary Hall.
