Lawaetz Conference Room, St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands. Sincerely, Dr. Elle A. Nielsen TESTIMONY IN SUPPORT OF BILL NO. 36-0149 Good day, with protocol being established, I am Dr. Elle A. Nielsen, educator, mentor, arts enthusiast, cultural advocate, and ambassador here in the territory. Today, I have the esteemed pleasure of standing before you to commemorate the extensive contributions of Miss Janeisha John. As a daughter of the soil, I find it extremely important to create avenues and implement opportunities to plant the seeds that pours back into a community that has molded me into the multi-faceted young professional I am today. Guiding the duality of my professorship at the University of the Virgin Islands and as a contracted international performing artist, I always strive to emulate the capacities in which I can highlight and exercise cultural pride. Martha Graham states, “Great dancers are not great because of their technique; they are great because of their passion,” this quote is not only philosophical on how I navigate day to day hurdles, but it depicts the reflective power on how Miss Janeisha John has highly influenced my life. I met Miss John at the tender age of five years old. From then until now, it has been a humbling and immersive experience to see the fruition of her growth. Professionally, she is a media mogul, model, dancer, pageant queen, actor, television producer, radio host, motivational speaker, and overall entrepreneur. She gracefully exudes this fierce resilience that inspires others to want to step into their alignment of purpose. The weight of her accolades and accomplishments is indeed a testament to why we are all here in this celebratory moment, but Janeisha’s passion is what really illuminates continuously placing her at the forefront of greatness. This is the very same passion that has encouraged me to push past adversity and soar into my acclaimed endeavors. Today, we are not only honoring the plethora of achievements for another daughter of the soil, but a woman who chooses to tirelessly ensure that the Virgin Islands is beautifully represented globally in every aspect of her career. To my big sister, Janeisha John, thank you for being you and congratulations on such a well- deserved recognition!
