The Foundation for the University of the Virgin Islands (FUVI) hosted its second annual Celebrity Golf Classic on June 8-11, at the Carambola Golf Course on St. Croix. Some 75 golfers teamed with 25 celebrities from the worlds of sports and entertainment. The weekend included youth clinics in basketball, football and golf, which drew 60 St. Croix youngsters. Andia Winslow con- ducted the golf clinic, with Tim Walton and Robert Porcher III headlining the football clinic and Maurice Lucas and Salim Stoudamire leading the football session. A Government House reception, press conference, casino night and celebrity party rounded out the weekend. FUVI Board Chairman and UVI Vice President for In- stitutional Advancement Joseph B. Boschulte hailed the Classic. “Our supporters truly endorsed the event this year, moving us to record highs in the number of donors and contributions raised.” Despite this year’s suc- cess, Boschulte noted the chal- lenges continue. “Our work is far from done. I received a great deal of feedback from the event. We are going to work to make the 2007 FUVI Celebrity Golf Classic even better,” he said. Mitchell Neaves, UVI’s director of Annual Giving, called the Golf Classic an enormous success for UVI and the Virgin Islands. “The planning committee, as well as our staff and alumni on St. Croix, did an outstanding job,” Neaves said. “We needed a ton of help and the UVI community came through when we needed them.” A slide show and list of celebrity participants and donors at the Second Annual FUVI Celebrity Golf Classic are featured on the UVI web site - http://www.uvi.edu - dateline:UVI 2 John Brewer’s Bay St. Thomas, VI 00802 GET CONNECTED TO UVI news, activities and accomplishments at . . . www.uvi.edu dateline:UVI is a production of the UVI Public Relations Office.
