The purpose of the $7 million project is to address, improve, replace, rehabilitate, and reconstruct storm drainage infrastructure in the downtown historic district of Charlotte Amalie. Repairs to the storm water infrastructure are necessary due to much of the drainage being dated—some drainage being in place from colonial times. The full scope of the project includes drainage improvements, roadway excavation, reconstruction of culverts, as well as installing and maintaining temporary traffic control devices etc. Motorists are asked to remove all vehicles and utilize alternate routes while work is in progress. The department is urging motorists to adhere to all safety controls and directives from on-site flaggers throughout this reconstruction period.
