Office of the Commissioner CONTACT: Jamal Nielsen, Media Relations Coordinator jamal.nielsen@dpnr.vi.gov Friday, September 19, 2025 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BEACH ADVISORY The Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) announces that the Beach Water Quality Monitoring Program, which evaluates weekly water quality at popular swimming beaches throughout the Territory by sampling for Enterococci Bacteria and Turbidity, a measure of water clarity, advises the public of the following: DPNR performed water quality analysis at 12 designated beaches throughout the Territory during the week of September 15– September 19, 2025. Beaches on St. Thomas, St. John, and Water Island were not sampled. Based on the analytical results, the following beaches met water quality standards and are considered safe for swimming and fishing: St. Croix Buccaneer Beach Ha’Penny Beach Cane Bay New Fort Louisa Augusta Chenay Bay Pelican Cove (Comorant) Cramers Park Protestant Cay Dorsch Beach Shoy’s Beach Frederiksted Public Beach Stony Ground However, significant rainfall occurred after the sample collection. Therefore, the department advises the following: • Exercise caution when using coastal waters and beaches throughout the Territory. • Parents should instruct children to avoid stormwater-impacted beaches, manholes, and areas with stormwater flooding. Stormwater runoff may contain harmful contaminants or pollutants. Avoid areas of stormwater runoff (e.g., guts, puddles, drainage basins) or any area that appears discolored or has foul odors. Please note: Samples were not collected at the following beaches. • Beaches on St. Thomas, St. John, and Water Island • Columbus Landing on St. Croix • Grapetree Bay Beach on St. Croix • Princess Condo Row on St. Croix • Rainbow Beach on St. Croix • Sprat Hall on St. Croix Therefore, the water quality at these beaches is unknown. For additional information regarding water quality, call the Division of Environmental Protection at 773-1082 in St. Croix or 774-3320 in St. Thomas.
