This short video will serve as a tutorial to help you utilize The at Home Water Testing Kits. Let’s look at what’s in each kit! These kits contain supplies that will enable you to test both pH and presence or absence of bacteria in your water supply at home. Each kit contains: • A data sheet for you to record your data on • An instructional card for how to conduct the tests • A mold readiness and water disinfection guide • One 15ml centrifuge tube for collecting your water sample • One coliform bacteria test • One vial with 100 pH testing strips • One pencil • One small sheet of foil paper Alright! Now that we know what’s inside the kits, let’s see how to conduct the pH test. For this test, you will need to fill the centrifuge tube with water from your sink faucet, between 10- 14 ml. Take out one of the litmus paper strips and dip the strip into the centrifuge tube and leave for about 5-10 seconds. Remove the strip and compare against the color chart located on the container for the litmus paper strips. Be sure to record your data on the data sheet provided. For the coliform test, fill the glass vial with water from your sink faucet to the black fill line; cover the vial and shake for 3-5 seconds. Next, cover the vial with the foil paper to protect it from light. You can also store the vial in a cupboard; leave the vial for 2-3 days undisturbed. Refer to the chart located on the back of the instructional card to interpret the results of this test. Be sure to record your results. Once your data has been collected, you should scan the QR code on the data sheet to input your results online. That concludes the At Home Water Testing Kit tutorial!
