Government of the Virgin Islands of the United States DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES Press Contact: Ryan Nugent Director of Communications Phone: (340) 725-4924 ryan.nugent@dhs.vi.gov For Immediate Release: May 30, 2023 VIDHS Offices To Close Half Day for All Hazards Disaster Preparedness and Response Annual Staff Training U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS - Commissioner Kimberley Causey-Gomez advises the public that all DHS offices (territory-wide) will be closed on Friday, June 2, 2023 and Friday, June 9, 2023, from 1:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. for mandatory annual ESF6 Mass Care and Shelter Operations Training. All residential facilities and 24/7 emergency services will maintain normal operations. The Virgin Islands Department of Human Services is mandated to carry out Emergency Support Function (ESF) #6, under FEMA and VITEMA’s Coordinated Disaster Response. ESF #6 refers to Mass Care, Emergency Assistance, Shelters, and Human Services. It requires the agency to supervise the coordination and delivery of mass care, emergency assistance, sheltering, and human services during a disaster. …
