Oriol of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources is pleased to announce the next meeting of the Talking Books Book Club with Nina Garcia, scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, at 10:00 a.m. at the Regional Library for the Blind and Physically Challenged, now located within the Florence Williams Library in Christiansted. The book club is open to all eligible participants and individuals interested in joining the Talking Books program. This month's featured selection is Nash Fall by bestselling author David Baldacci, a suspense-filled thriller that follows Army veteran and investigator Travis Devine as he is dispatched to the small mountain town of Nash Fall, where a homicide investigation uncovers secrets, corruption, and powerful forces determined to keep the truth buried. As Devine digs deeper into the case, he finds himself confronting danger at every turn while unraveling a mystery that threatens the entire community. The August meeting also marks a special milestone: the fifth anniversary of the Talking Books Book Club with Nina Garcia, a program that has provided readers with opportunities to connect, engage in meaningful discussion, and foster a love of reading through accessible formats. "As we celebrate five years of the Talking Books Book Club, we celebrate much more than books. We celebrate connection, inclusion, and community," said Amy DeSorbo, Director of the Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums (DLAM). "This book club has created a welcoming space where individuals who are blind, have low vision, or face physical challenges that make reading standard print difficult can come together to share ideas, build friendships, and enjoy the lifelong joy of reading. DeSorbo also encouraged readers to take advantage of the library's growing digital collection through Hoopla. "We're excited to welcome our readers to explore our digital collection through Hoopla," DeSorbo said. "To make it easier for everyone to join in, we've added six new eBook copies and six audiobook versions of this month's selection. We invite readers to dive into this remarkable story and connect with fellow book lovers in our vibrant community." The Talking Books Book Club meets regularly on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. For more information or to participate, contact: Nina Garcia, Librarian II at (340) 718-2250 nina.garcia@dpnr.vi.gov or Amy DeSorbo, Director, DLAM amy.desorbo@dpnr.vi.gov.
