Mr. Chairman as Honorable | Members have already read the Inte:- | vellation it is not necessary for me to | readit. All are aware that in December | month the Sick-house ar Richmond was | closed and the inmates turned out. This l has givep a very sad impression to the | community. The former inmates are l suffering yet with sores on their. bodies and [do not believe any of them are able to work to earn sufficient to live on. As far as | understand, it was stated that they have received pensions from l the Poor Commission, but Ido not know | how much the pension is; even if they | are receiving three dollar; per month is not sufficient to support a man, woman, or even a child, considering that today a room cannot be rented for less than one dollar and a quarter per month, and the consequence is, they are going about the streets begging, and some are in such condition that ped- ple cannot refuse those who beg for aims. I-do not know the reason why they arejturned out, but it is said for want of means. Gentiemen it is only about six or seven months of the finan- | cial year that have passed, and if the | anmounts budgetted for the Richmond | Sickhouse have already been used: and l none left, there must. be something | wrong, where, Ido notknow. | We see in the Budget for the present ' financial y2ar under Richmond Sick- house, Section 7, an amount of Fres. - 21,120, and under Item 8, KEquipment
