I 106TH CONGRESS 2D SESSION H. R. 5019 To convey certain submerged lands to the Government of the Virgin Islands. IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES JULY 27, 2000 Mrs. CHRISTENSEN introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Resources A BILL To convey certain submerged lands to the Government of the Virgin Islands. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. CONVEYANCE OF SUBMERGED LANDS TO THE 3 GOVERNMENT OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS. 4 (a) IN GENERAL.—Subject to valid existing rights, 5 all of the right, title, and interest of the United States 6 in and to submerged lands in the area between the island 7 of Saint Croix and the islands of Saint Thomas and Saint 8 John is conveyed to the Government of the Virgin Islands 9 to be administered in trust for the benefit of the people 10 thereof. …

I 106TH CONGRESS 2D SESSION H. R. 5019 To convey certain submerged lands to the Government of the Virgin Islands. IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES JULY 27, 2000 Mrs. CHRISTENSEN introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Resources A BILL To convey certain submerged lands to the Government of the Virgin Islands. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. CONVEYANCE OF SUBMERGED LANDS TO THE 3 GOVERNMENT OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS. 4 (a) IN GENERAL.—Subject to valid existing rights, 5 all of the right, title, and interest of the United States 6 in and to submerged lands in the area between the island 7 of Saint Croix and the islands of Saint Thomas and Saint 8 John is conveyed to the Government of the Virgin Islands 9 to be administered in trust for the benefit of the people 10 thereof. 11 2 •HR 5019 IH (b) DEFINITIONS.—For purposes of this section: 1 (1) AREA BETWEEN THE ISLAND OF SAINT 2 CROIX AND THE ISLANDS OF SAINT THOMAS AND 3 SAINT JOHN.—The term ‘‘area between the island of 4 Saint Croix and the islands of Saint Thomas and 5 Saint John’’ means the area that is— 6 (A) outside of the area conveyed to the 7 Virgin Islands by section 1 of Public Law 93– 8 435 (48 U.S.C. 1705); 9 (B) north of Saint Croix; 10 (C) south of Saint Thomas and Saint 11 John; 12 (D) east of the line running from the west- 13 ernmost point on the coastline of Saint Croix at 14 mean high tide to the westernmost point on the 15 coastline of Saint Thomas at mean high tide; 16 and 17 (E) west of the line running from the east- 18 ernmost point on the coastline of Saint Croix at 19 mean high tide to the easternmost point on the 20 coastline of Saint John at mean high tide. 21 (2) SAINT CROIX, SAINT THOMAS, SAINT 22 JOHN.—The terms ‘‘Saint Croix’’, ‘‘Saint Thomas’’, 23 and ‘‘Saint John’’ mean the islands of Saint Croix, 24 3 •HR 5019 IH Saint Thomas, and Saint John, respectively, in the 1 United States Virgin Islands. 2 Æ
