Oriol of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources is pleased to announce that the Division of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) is now accepting applications for the Susan L. Williams National Coral Reef Management Fellowship. This prestigious two-year fellowship is made possible through a partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Nova Southeastern University (NSU) and the U.S. Department of Interior. It aims to strengthen local expertise in coral reef management and conservation in the U.S. Virgin Islands, while offering the selected Fellow valuable professional development and hands-on experience. The Fellow will be based on St. Croix at the St. Croix East End Marine Park (STXEEMP)— the territory’s first locally managed marine protected area. This is a full-time, salaried position with an annual compensation of $46,000. Local candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Fellowship Responsibilities: • Lead and coordinate the Virgin Islands Coral Restoration Working Group • Support CZM staff in organizing Coral Reef Week 2026 & 2027 • Manage data for STXEEMP research and conservation initiatives • Assist with citizen science programs and community outreach • Participate in biological monitoring and park operations • Set agendas for monthly coral restoration meetings • Help plan the annual coral reef disturbance workshops Eligibility Requirements: • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biological/environmental sciences or natural resource management • Experience in community organizing or coordinating conservation efforts • Strong oral and written communication skills • Proficiency in scientific data management and analysis • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Ability to swim preferred (SCUBA certification not required) • Must possess a valid driver’s license To apply and view the full position description, visit: https://bit.ly/USVICORAL For questions or more information, contact: Kelcie Troutman, Marine Park Coordinator kelcie.troutman@dpnr.vi.gov or call (340) 718-3367.
