London, Sept. 22nd. —No progress was | made today towards a settlemennt of | the coal miners dispute although among ’ the more optimistic, hope has been re- vived from the fact that a meeting of ! the ‘‘Triple Alliance’’ has been called é for Ihursday to hear the reply of Mr. | Lloyd George to the Committee of Alli- | ance which visited him late today. The reply of the Premier was a reiteration of the proposal made to the miners exec- | utive committee the previous day that ‘ there being a difference of opinion ; between the miners and the Gov- | ernment as to facts and figures the | question of an increase of wages should !f be referred to an impartial tribunal | or as an alternative the miners | should consent to work out with tke | colliery owners and the Government, | some scheme whereby in return for in- | creased production the miners could i get increased wages. It was not in their power how- ever to give a definite pledge for an increased output, as obstacles might be placed in their way. Mr. Hodges, another of. the miners delegates said that the proposition as it mow stood, was one which could not take the place o the applicati~n for an advance.
