[ Continued from Ist page.] of ali was the one, which watch- ed the Prince put out across the North river to embark on the Re- nown nearly an hour before the Prince arrived, the section of the Pennysylvania terminal at Jersey City, reserved for his train had been cleared of all spectators. Three hundred soldiers of the thirteenth United States infantry anda band were lined up as a guard of honour from the track to the water line where the boats that were to take him to New York were waitine, the band played ‘"God save the King’’ when the Prince stepped from the train. The Prince quickly sal- uted, and kept thus while the anthem was played. A minute later when "‘The Spangled Banner’’ was played he again stood at the the salute. Major General David E. Shalks and Brigadier General Peter W. Davidon welcomed the Prince in the name of the army, while Admiral Glennon,commanding the third naval dis- trict, was present a; the representatie of the navy. Officials of Jersey City were amongst the welcoming committee. There were decorations on the Pier ana a guard of honour composed of 150 uni- formed Jersey City policemen lending the only touch of colour to the occasion, the reception at the pier was an iuformal one, the forma! welcome of the city of New Ynrk being extended at the bat- tery, where the Prince and his party were taken in barges Hff the battleship Penn- sylvania, the flagship of the Atlantic fleet. A cheering throng grected the Prince of Wales as he stepped from the barge at battery park at eleven iifteen o’cloeck. Aftera brief exchange of greet- ings with members of the Mayors re- ception committee, he was driven in an automobile through the financial distriet up Broadway to he city Hall where the forma welcome of the city wa: extei ded by Mayor Hylan. Thousands of people were massed in the ecity hall Plaza, as the Prince’s party drove tkhrough. The British and American flags shared egual- ly in the decorations ove. the portals and in the Aldérmanic chamber where the official ceremonies took place. The police band played during the ceremony. This year we have good cause to be thankful and to be glad. The star of peace that appeared a year ago is rapidly becoming fixed in the firmament of the na- tions of the earth due tothe long strides being taken by the treaty-making power towards the =ratification of the trealy which lowered the curtain on the tragedy of the world war. The League of Na- tions, a guiding star to the ha-~bor of perpetual peace, is lcoming up o~ the horizon. The coming o’ peace leads us to the dawning of a new day for which we should be very grateful. With saie- ty in our humble homes from the pon- derous duties of war we are the betier able to reap the crops which it has been our good fortune to have spared to us from the cruel hands of draugnt and of hur- ricane. After rurning away from the former duty in the military prote®tion of our homes from the coniemplated ravages of the enemy we may ernteniedly enter upon a constructive period with the up- building of institutions and municipali- ties.
