RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Purpose: To approve a Master of Arts degree program in School Counseling and Guidance. WHEREAS, the Master of Arts degree program in Education with concentration in School Counseling and Guidance offered by the University’s School of Education requires 36 credits, 15 of which are directly related to the field of counseling; however for a person to become certified as a counselor in the Virgin Islands, or in the United States, the person needs to have earned at least a total of 48 credits; and WHEREAS, the University’s School of Education proposes to eliminate the Master of Arts degree program in Education with concentration in School Counseling and Guidance and replace it with the Master of Arts degree program in School Counseling and Guidance; and WHEREAS, the establishment of a Master of Arts degree program in School Counseling and Guidance would, not only provide graduate students with the necessary content and professional, skills, and disposition required to become certified in the Virgin Islands, but also in t …

RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Purpose: To approve a Master of Arts degree program in School Counseling and Guidance. WHEREAS, the Master of Arts degree program in Education with concentration in School Counseling and Guidance offered by the University’s School of Education requires 36 credits, 15 of which are directly related to the field of counseling; however for a person to become certified as a counselor in the Virgin Islands, or in the United States, the person needs to have earned at least a total of 48 credits; and WHEREAS, the University’s School of Education proposes to eliminate the Master of Arts degree program in Education with concentration in School Counseling and Guidance and replace it with the Master of Arts degree program in School Counseling and Guidance; and WHEREAS, the establishment of a Master of Arts degree program in School Counseling and Guidance would, not only provide graduate students with the necessary content and professional, skills, and disposition required to become certified in the Virgin Islands, but also in the United States; and WHEREAS, on March 31, 2015, the School of Education approved the establishment of the Master of Arts degree program in School Counseling and Guidance; and WHEREAS, on September 30, 2015, the Graduate Council of the University approved the Master of Arts degree program in School Counseling and Guidance; and WHEREAS, on December 3, 2015, the faculty of the University approved the Master of Arts degree program in School Counseling and Guidance; and WHEREAS, on May 16, 2016, the Academic Research and Student Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees voted to recommend to the Board of Trustees the establishment of the Master of Arts degree program in School Counseling and Guidance. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY THAT: 1. The elimination of the Master of Arts in Education with the concentration in School Counseling and Guidance and the establishment, in its place, of the Master of Arts degree program in School Counseling and Guidance is hereby approved. 2. The President is authorized to take such action as is necessary to implement this resolution. 3. This resolution shall become effective June 4, 2016. CERTIFICATION The undersigned hereby certifies that the foregoing is a true and exact copy of a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands and adopted at its meeting on Saturday, June 4, 2016, as recorded in the minutes of the said meeting.
