ACT NO.B4AT7A BILL NO. 24-0180 TWENTY-FOURTH LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS OF THE UNITED STATES Regular Session 2001 To honor and commend Midre Almeric Cummings, a native Virgin Islander, of the Arizona Diamondbacks, for playing in the 2001 World Series against the New York Yankees and to name the park in Frederiksted across from Fort Frederik the “Midre Almeric Cummings Recreational & Youth Facility.” .--()--- WHEREAS, Midre Almeric Cummings was born in Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands, on October 14, 1971, to Carmen Bastian and Neville Cummings, and WHEREAS, Midre Almeric Cummings grew up more in the Frederiksted area and began playing baseball in Little League; and WHEREAS, Midre Almeric Cummings, in 1987, played on a team coached by the legendary Elmo Plaskett that upset perennial power Taiwan in the Senior Little League World Series; and WHEREAS, Midre Almeric Cummings, in 1989, moved to Miami and displayed his athletic ability at Edison High School starring for the baseball team, setting state records running track; and WHEREAS, Midre Almeric Cummings was drafted by …
