ACT NO.6642 BILL NO. 25-0056 TWENTY-FIFTH LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS OF THE UNITED STATES Regular Session 2003 To amend Title 1, Virgin Islands Code, chapter 7 to declare Quelbe the official traditional music of the Virgin Islands ---0--- WHEREAS, in Act No. 5778, the Virgin Islands Cultural Heritage Act, the Legislature affirmed that the people of the Virgin Islands have a unique culture that is defined by their customs, values, traditions, arts, skills, speech and mannerisms; and WHEREAS, this Legislature concurs with the legislative findings set forth in the Virgin Islands Cultural Heritage Act and also finds that the Virgin Islands culture has been a source of strength and a sense of identity for its people; and WHEREAS, the Legislature further finds that a society that fails to preserve and promote its culture may lose its identity, but preservation of our cultural heritage is an affirmation of our existence and contributions to society; and WHEREAS, the music traditions of the Virgin Islands is a kallaloo of styles and forms and captures the pulse of the people; and WHER …
