The Food Commission is getting it from the merchants who declare that the price nf sugar as approved by the com- mission ¢oes not permit the handling of this precious article at a reasinable pro- fit. The manufacturer’s price of sugar is said to be 13 cents at present, and after expenses connected with the stcck- ing are paid, it will have c¢st, it is claimed, almost the 15 cents aliowed 10 be charged by the Food Commisgion. - The increased price of 15 cents for milk and 10 cents a pound for live weight of beef, is now being talked of. As mat- ters stand, already many persons must forego these articles as luxuries beyond their means. The time in which bids for the furnish ing, under a lease, of equipped quarters for post office purposes in Christiansted will be received, has been exrended to February 29th. 1920.
