FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GOVERNOR MAPP PROCLAIMS TUESDAY AUGUST 25TH “ALVIN GEE SYLVESTER SOUTHWELL” DAY (August 24, 2015, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands) On the 21st of August, Governor Mapp signed a proclamation honoring our local newsman, Alvin Gee Southwell. . Tuesday, August 25th, is now “Alvin Gee Sylvester Southwell” day in the US Virgin Islands, according to the proclamation signed by Governor Mapp. On the day that “Alvin Gee” is laid to rest, the entire community will be celebrating his life and many contributions Governor Kenneth E. Mapp was saddened to learn of the passing of Alvin Gee, “I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Alvin”. Alvin Southwell, or “Alvin Gee” as he is known to most of us, was synonymous with “news” in the Territory. His unique voice greeted the territory each morning and evening, delivering news of the day’s activities about our community and the wider Caribbean.
