ACT NO.6418 BILL NO. 24-0045 TWENTY-FOURTH LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS OF THE UNITED STATES Regular Session 2001 ‘To amend title 17 to enact the Virgin Islands Teacher Recruitment and Training Act of 2001, and for other related purposes ---0--- WHEREAS, it is critical to the educational development of our children that the territory’s schools be adequately staffed with qualified teaching personnel; and WHEREAS, educators and policymakers have expressed concern about current and anticipated teacher shortages; and WHEREAS, the number of teachers who are eligible for retirement continues to increase while fewer college students are making career choices in the field of teaching; and WHEREAS, it is the intention of the Legislature to address the teacher-shortage trend by offering attractive incentives to qualified individuals who elect to pursue a career in teaching and agree to serve in the public schools of the Virgin Islands thereby ensuring that our pupils have access to quality education and a fair chance to succeed academically; Now, Therefore, BE IT ENACTED by the Legislatur …
