Os course sugar is guing down at catapwit pace in the American market and the fizures wa:- ranted by that condition are not inducive ¢ ough. The Food Uommission, that, man of straw we are said * .be fighting tie bane of the economic welfare of the island, is supposed to be the obstacle barring an agreement about prices. More on this subject. SLOCAL. The Native Brass Band gave their pro- mised concert on the wharf last evening and at the termination tramped around the town much to the enjoyment ofa very large crowd. The hghthouse tender "‘Lllac’’arrived here yesterday afternoon from St. Tho- mas. : the S. S. Fort Victoria arrived at Frederiksted ttis a. m. bringing mail whieh according to inquiry at 8.30 had not been landed. What tha2re is for Christiansted may therefore noi be look- ed !or before noon. TELEGRAM . - ST. CROIX SI'ATION. ‘New York, Nov. Bth.—Substantial re- duction in the price of cotton goods were announced here today by several firms. Percale prices have been cut down from last seasons 30c. a yard to a thirteen and a half cent basis.. Sta- ndard prints were priced for the new sea- son at 124c. a yard, a drop from 23c. a yard. . For 2.20 denirs white back, 25c. is now asked and ‘or 2.40 double and twist goods, 214 c. These goods ranged in price during th~ fever of speculation in second hands from 53 to 57¢. a yard. . Minneapolis, Nov. Bth.—Flour vrices today continned their downward slide and reached what millers said were war prices. At one large wmill family patent flour declined forty cents a barrel to a new low price of ten dollars. ‘This quo- tation was for car lcts in 98 pounds cot- ton sacks. New York, Nov. Bth.—The market for raw sugar was unsettled todsy and while no fresh business was reported there was considerable sugar available at prices of 6ic. for Cuba’s equal to 7.52 far centri- fugal. Refined was in slight demand and confined to nearby reguirements.: Prices were unchanged at 15% and 11.00 for fine granulated.
