Francis, Jr., by Request of the Governor WHEREAS, on October 12, 2023, the Acting Commissioner of the Department of 1 Agriculture executed the Lease Agreement between the Government of the Virgin Islands and 2 James O. Gaston; 3 WHEREAS, on October 19, 2023, the Commissioner of the Department of Property and 4 Procurement executed the Lease Agreement between the Government of the Virgin Islands and 5 James O. Gaston; 6 WHEREAS, on October 26, 2023, the Governor of the Virgin Islands approved the 7 Lease Agreement between the Government of the Virgin Islands and James O. Gaston; 8 WHEREAS, James O. Gaston, will be leasing Plot No. 9-G VICORP Lands, Prince 9 Quarter, St. Croix, Virgin Islands, consisting of approximately 653, 400 U.S. sq. ft. or 15 U.S. 10 2 acres of unimproved land, more or less, as shown on Drawing No. A9-5-C008; for an initial 1 term of 20 years, with a 10-year option to renew; at an annual rent of $225.00, to be used for 2 crop production and rearing small livestock; 3 WHEREAS, title 31 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 21, section 205, subsection (c) 4 provides that in addition to the Governor’s approval of any lease, the Legislature of the Virgin 5 Islands must also approve all leases that exceeds a term of one year; Now, Therefore, 6 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the Virgin Islands: 7 SECTION 1. Pursuant to title 31 Virgin Islands Code, section 205, subsection (c), the 8 Legislature of the Virgin Islands approves the Lease Agreement between the Government of 9 the Virgin Islands, acting through its Commissioner of the Department of Property and 10 Procurement and James O. Gaston, for Plot No. 9-G VICORP Lands, Prince Quarter, St. Croix, 11 Virgin Islands, consisting of approximately 653, 400 U.S. sq. ft. or 15 U.S. acres of unimproved 12 land, more or less, as shown on Drawing No. A9-5-C008; for an initial term of 20 years, with 13 a 10-year option to renew; at an annual rent of $225.00, to be used for crop production and 14 rearing small livestock. 15 BILL SUMMARY 16 This bill approves the lease agreement between the Government of the Virgin Islands and 17 James O.
