November 18 U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – The St. Croix Administrator’s Office, in collaboration with the VI Waste Management Authority, the Department of Public Works, the VI Fire Service, and the VI Police Department, has scheduled cleanups in the towns of Frederiksted and Christiansted respectively. On Thursday, November 21st, between 8 a.m. and noon, crews will pick up trash and pressure wash the sidewalk on Strand Street in Frederiksted, from the Athalie Petersen Public Library to the Eliza James McBean Clock Tower at Buddhoe Park. The non-profit organization ‘Our Town Frederiksted,’ will participate in cleanup activities in that area.  On Friday, November 22nd, between 8 a.m. and noon, crews will pick up trash and pressure wash the sidewalks from Bassin Triangle to Times Square in Christiansted. The Christiansted Restaurant and Retail Association will participate in cleanup activities in Christiansted. According to St. Croix Administrator Sammuel Sanes, no street closures are planned during these activities. However, the motoring public is asked to avoid parking along the streets identified for cleanup until crews have completed the work.  “This effort is part of Governor Bryan’s ‘VI Pride – Keeping Our Islands Clean’ initiative to spruce up our historic town areas,” said Administrator Sammuel Sanes. “Our goal is to make our town an attractive place for people to work, live, play, and visit.” Administrator Sanes added that more town cleanup events would be announced later in the year.  Administrator Sanes and his office in collaboration with stakeholders from the government, the private sector, and the resident-community have completed more than a dozen different cleanup efforts to include land clearing, appliance, and abandoned car removal and dumpsite cleanups. In October, the Office of the St. Thomas-Water Island Administrator Avery Lewis completed cleanup of the Savan community in Charlotte Amalie, helping residents dispose of bulk items. Governor Albert Bryan Jr. submitted a supplemental budget to the Virgin Islands Legislature in September, which included $600 thousand to the Department of Public Works for street maintenance and cleaning crews to conduct routine cleanup of towns.
