Hadn’t we better get iLe proponent of the Bill to find out some- thing about what it would cost to main- tain the road roller? They have road rollers ip the English Islands and in Porto Rien, but they are muech richer than we are here. Barbados, 1 believe, is a very economic country, I propose that information be obtained from Barbadcs as to the probable cost of maintairing a road roller. 4th Appeinted Member {(Blackwood) re- marked: Mr. Chairman. As one of the Members of the Committee appointed to receive aud report on the Money Rill, I urnderstand we were to suspend all dis- cussions on Bill No. 14 until we get the road roller; and it was recommended that the road roller be put under the econtrol of the Public Works officer. I supppse then we should get an estimate from the Public Works Officer as to the probable cost of maintaining the roller. Itis al- most:impossible for us to compare notes vsgth the neighboring islands, considering that conditions here are different !to those existing in the neighkoring islands. Some of our roads only need receonstrue- tion and some need repairing: these mat- ters we can thrash out when we get the road roller. It was stater here that maintenanee for the roller will come ocut of next year’s budget, with that under- standing I do not think many members gave much thought as to how we should raise funds to maintain the roller. The Member then read a statement as to number of ears, trucks ete., operat- ing on the island and’the revenues de- rived from them and the revenuss de- rived from the boat, horse and earriage tax and said,—l believe that would be sufficient and ample to keep our roads in fine condition. 1 have an estimste for working rollers in Porto Rico which was published in the papers. but I do not know if any member has read it.
