January 15 U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS— With several dozen family members, friends, colleagues and supporters gathered inside Government House, Governor Albert Bryan Jr. on Thursday swore in Jennifer Matarangas-King as commissioner of the Virgin Islands Department of Tourism, formally placing her at the helm of one of the territory’s most vital agencies. Matarangas-King, joined by her daughter, Alexis, took the oath of office administered by Superior Court Judge Venetia Harvey Velazquez. “Tourism is the front door to our economy, and the story it tells must be true to who we are and strong enough to compete anywhere in the world,” Governor Bryan said. “Commissioner Matarangas-King understands both the business and the brand of the Virgin Islands. She will lead with energy, professionalism and purpose, and she will make sure the benefits of a strong tourism economy reach our people across St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John.” The governor nominated Matarangas-King in July, and she was confirmed by the 36th Legislature in November. Following the oath, Governor Bryan pinned Matarangas-King with the golden eagle lapel pin worn by members of the governor’s Cabinet, marking her official entry into the Bryan-Roach Administration’s senior leadership team. “I step into this role with gratitude and with an unwavering commitment to serve,” Commissioner Matarangas-King said. “Tourism must continue to deliver real opportunity for Virgin Islanders. We will elevate the visitor experience, strengthen our partnerships, support our local businesses, and tell the Virgin Islands story with authenticity, pride and excellence.” A St. Croix native and longtime communications and public affairs executive, Matarangas-King assumes leadership of the Department of Tourism as the territory continues building global visibility and expanding its tourism product, from airlift and cruise activity to on-island experiences that showcase the Virgin Islands’ culture, natural beauty and spirit. ### TAGS No tags CATEGORIES Uncategorized Previous Next Comments are closed © 2026 Government of the United States Virgin Islands.
