1 BOARD OF TRUSTEES UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Resolution approving the selection of a new set of Institutional Peers and Aspirational Peers for the University of the Virgin Islands WHEREAS, over a period of many years, the University of the Virgin Islands (“University”) has used a set of institutional and aspirational peers to make comparisons between the University and other similar institutions on matters pertaining to enrollment, SAT scores, appropriations as percentages of core revenues, and tuition and fees as percentages of core revenues, among others; and WHEREAS the existing set of institutional and aspirational peers have been in use since June 15, 2013 and has not been revised since that time period; and WHEREAS in light of the new strategic plan, “Greatness Through Innovation,” the President appointed and charged the Institutional Assessment area to guide the process of identifying and selecting a new set of institutional and aspirational peers by placing an emphasis on institutions that have been recognized for being innovative and have made significant achievement in student retention; and WHEREAS the recommendations of new institutions from Institutional Assessment were shared with the Cabinet, Faculty, Staff Council and Student Government Association, and additional recommendations were received and a final list was approved by the Cabinet and the President ; and WHEREAS Institutional Assessment reviewed a list of the 50 Most Innovative Small Colleges 2018 for inclusion; the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) data for the 50 Innovative, Puerto Rican and other schools were reviewed, where criteria for selection included miscellaneous indicators, degree-granting status, highest degree offered, institution size, and full-time first-time undergraduates, among others, SAT/ACT test scores, enrollment, retention rate, graduation rate, core revenues and core expenses, among others; and WHEREAS the Planning Committee of the Board of Trustees has voted to recommend to the full Board of Trustees that the following lists of new Institutional Peers and Aspirational Peers for the University be approved: Institutional Peers Lincoln University Alverno College CUNY - Medgar Evers College University of the District of Columbia Clark Atlanta University Ohio State University-Lima Campus Savannah State University University of Guam Alabama A & M University Colegio Universitario de San Juan Aspirational Peers Alfred University Delaware State University Oregon Institute of Technology SUNY - Purchase College University of Texas - Permian Basin University of Hawaii - Hilo Allegheny college Valparaiso University New College of Florida The Evergreen State College NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS: The new list of Institutional Peers and Aspirational Peers as appears below are hereby approved. 2 Institutional Peers Lincoln University Alverno College CUNY - Medgar Evers College University of the District of Columbia Clark Atlanta University Ohio State University-Lima Campus Savannah State University University of Guam Alabama A & M University Colegio Universitario de San Juan Aspirational Peers Alfred University Delaware State University Oregon Institute of Technology SUNY - Purchase College University of Texas - Permian Basin University of Hawaii - Hilo Allegheny college Valparaiso University New College of Florida The Evergreen State College The President and Provost are authorized to take such actions as are necessary and proper to implement this resolution.
