Janiesha John By Dr. Valrica Bryson, Ph.D. As an educator, one occasionally encounters a student who is truly exceptional- someone who immerses themselves in learning and demonstrates an unwavering eagerness to grow as a musician and performer. Janiesha John was one such student. She approached music with curiosity and determination, always seeking to understand how she could elevate her craft. Beyond her musical talents, she excelled in dance, acting, and performance, shining as a well- rounded artist. Throughout high school, Janiesha remained dedicated to academic excellence, consistently staying on top of her studies and pursuing success with clear purpose and vision. Her courage and ambition were evident when she competed for the title of Miss St. Croix-not with the sole intention of winning, but with the desire to embrace the opportunity for growth. That experience propelled her forward to vie for the title of Miss Virgin Islands, a moment of immense pride for those who had witnessed her journey. A journey that she took with great pride and promise. Her resilience, her refusal to give up, and her constant drive to rise higher made her accomplishments even more meaningful. I felt like a proud mother when she was crowned and went on to compete in Ms. Universe. As Miss Virgin Islands, Janiesha represented her community with unmatched grace and commitment. She poured into others, mentoring young women who later went on to win Miss St. Croix and other pageant titles, a testament to her leadership and generosity. Seeing her on social media, on television, and on her own Zeus Network platform comes as no surprise—Janiesha has always been destined for greatness. Notably she carries a deep peace within herself, balanced by joy, humility, and a radiant spirit. Her willingness to share knowledge, uplift others, and persevere is remarkable. She embodies Virgin Islands pride, honoring her heritage, culture, and people with every step she takes. Her love for family-her siblings, her parents-and her devotion to her community speak volumes about her character. Janiesha John deserves to be celebrated; she has embraced who she is and where she comes from with grace and pride. I had the privilege of teaching her; it remains an honor to have played even a small role in her journey. She has always been destined to succeed, and she continues to rise with dignity and strength. She is loved now and always.
