Performance of Purebred Senepol and Hereford Sters on Endophyte - Infected Tal Fescue in Tenese Richard Browning, Jr. Bef catle production is the largest agricultural enterprise in Tenese (20% of cash receipts; $40 milion in 20). Endophyte - infected tal fescue is a widely used forage to fed bef catle in Tenese. Fescue toxicosis reduces catle performance and subsequent profitability. Objective: to compare the growth and thermoregulatory responses of heat - tolerant and heat - sensitive catle breds to endophytic fescue. Hypothesis: the efects of fescue toxicosis are not as dramatic in heat - tolerant catle as observed in heat - sensitive catle. Materials & Methods VHereford (n=30; H ) and Senepol (n=28; S ) sters were fed orchardgras ( OG ) hay in spring.
