A Student’s Perspective: Hilrianna attended Summer Bridge in 2016 Attending Summer Bridge at UVI was an educational and fun experience! Summer Bridge not only prepares students for the placement tests but it also gets them ready for college life with a class called College Success. Summer Bridge is about every student having fun while learning and being placed in the right class so they will not only be successful in college but in life itself. Join the fun and prepare for college: Live on campus Sunday evening to Friday afternoon Develop competence and confidence in writing, mathematics, and reading Have access to tutoring/mentoring Become part of a learning community Work with UVI faculty Explore and use campus resources Receive early advisement and registration Are You a High School Senior Thinking about Summer Bridge? Summer Bridge 2016 participants benefitted from watching scientific research in action, thanks to Dr. Platenberg and her colleagues, the St Thomas Bat Team, who have been monitoring the bats at Magens Bay Watershed Preserve and other sites since 2008. …

Summer Bridge 2016 participants benefitted from watching scientific research in action, thanks to Dr. Platenberg and her colleagues, the St Thomas Bat Team, who have been monitoring the bats at Magens Bay Watershed Preserve and other sites since 2008. Students observed the capture and evaluation of bats, gaining a better appreciation of the furry creatures and scientific field research. It saved me a whole a lot of money. —I met my roommate at Summer Bridge. We are very involved on campus —The guidance from the staff helped me excel in my classes! —My professors and the administrators know me by name, I can approach anyone for extra help. A. Required Application Documents for Summer Bridge 2017 1. A completed application form (Found at: bridge.uvi.edu or http://www.uvi.edu/academics/ctr- student-success/css-summer-bridge.aspx) 2. A personal statement of 300-500 words typed, doubled spaced, and in size 12 Times New Roman font based on the following question: “What goals would I like to accomplish by being a part of the 2017 Summer Bridge program?” 3. A letter of recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, or other school official who can speak on your character, work ethic, and qualities. 4. A high school transcript The completed application form and support documents (personal statement, recommendation letter, and high school transcript) must be submitted together by May 12, 2017. B. Application review UVI's Summer Bridge team will make a decision on your application after the deadline. You will be considered for the second stage of the application process under these conditions: Your application is complete and legible You meet the academic criteria for participating in Bridge (SAT individual scores: Math - above 390 but less than 520, and Reading/Writing – above 400 but less than 560 or ACT individual scores: Math - above 18 but less than 20, and English or English/Writing above 19 but less than 21) Your personal statement and recommendation is to meet the selected criteria above. (decisions made by the Summer Bridge team are final) C. Interview The second stage of the application process requires that you meet with a member of the Summer Bridge team for a 15-minute interview. You will be contacted with the date and time for your interview once we have reviewed your application.
