The best course open to us is to hereby ask the Revd. Father Daily to make his meanirg clear to the people who feel that they have been insulted without oceasion, and we have no doubt but that he will doso. It really proved a catching series of acts skillfullyperform ed and so attractively arranged as to hold attention all the time. The main fea- ture of the film was a beautiful girl’s er- rand to San Francisco with valuable papers which were to be delivered there within a certain time. Her perilousexploits across the country, her loss and recove y of the papers, her getting in and out of jail, and the many comical exhibitions of her ex- ercises in booming '‘Beans’’, her father’s business which she desirad tr advertise, concluding with her bechrotal to a law- yer who accompanied ber on the journcy and shared her adventures, form as thrilling and charminz a story asany we have seen on the. screen; and many persons declare they’d like to sce it again. With regard to the use of phosphorus for poisoning land crabs, Dr. Longfieid Smith, Agronomist in Charge of the Agricultural lKxperimen: Station, St. Croix, states he used sane and found it very efficient. He ad '« hat phosphorus is very dangerous and ir its pure f‘orm ought to be supplied to experts only. The | mixture of phosphorus and corn-meal should be made up by a <aemist and d.s- tributed. It is so poiscnous that the | greatest caution must be observed or else | pigs, fowls, cattle, dogs. ete., will be poisoned. The correct way is to put the | mixture right down the crab’s hole be- | low the reach of the other animals and | not to put more in one ho e than the crab | is likely to eat. Dr. Smith states he will | be nappy at all times to furnish personal advice or send literaturz to persons om i the subject of any particular insector | pest they wish to destroy. A private attached to the Marine Bar- racks, St. Thomas, recently tried by court-martial for unlawfully eutering a grocery store in the lower end of town and demanding beer from the proprietor, and upon being refused, using abusive language tothe proprietor, was sentenced by the court-martial to solitary confine- ment on bread and water for thirty.-days, tull ration every third day, and to per- form extra duties for three months and to lose $99 pay. The sentence has been approved. In regard to present regulations cover- ing the sale of bay rum as a toilet article, which requires purchasers to sign an ap- plication blank showing the use for which the purchase is intended, it has been noted that unserupuloas dealers have made sales to persons who signed ficti- tlous names to such blanks, and in ex- cessive quantities. 'Birth Controi’’ is a stereo- tvped expression. You may argue that berth and birth are convertible terms, but linked with the word ‘‘control »’Birth’’ takes on a very specific mean- ing. The conclusion to be drawn from your contension is, that because ‘it is a ¢:medy it is all right. In other word it the sa'ne theme is acted in (ragedy it may be all wrong. Whetner it is Comedy o* Tragedy does not enter into the moral- ity of a theme. That is only the channel of the theme. .
