UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION PURPOSE: To approve a collaborative Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics with Washington University or Columbia University WHEREAS, the University of the Virgin Islands has signed agreements with Washington University in St. Louis and Columbia University in New York for the institution of a 3-2 Engineering program, and WHEREAS, these agreements will afford students the opportunity to receive an engineering degree, leveraged by the lower cost of a University of the Virgin Islands education, and will serve as a recruiting tool to attract students that would not otherwise come to the University of the Virgin Islands, and WHEREAS, the Division of Science and Mathematics proposes the following specific criteria to satisfy those agreements: e students will complete the basic science and mathematics requirement here at the University of the Virgin Islands (approximately three years of study); e students will complete the engineering requirements at either Washington University in St. …

UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION PURPOSE: To approve a collaborative Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics with Washington University or Columbia University WHEREAS, the University of the Virgin Islands has signed agreements with Washington University in St. Louis and Columbia University in New York for the institution of a 3-2 Engineering program, and WHEREAS, these agreements will afford students the opportunity to receive an engineering degree, leveraged by the lower cost of a University of the Virgin Islands education, and will serve as a recruiting tool to attract students that would not otherwise come to the University of the Virgin Islands, and WHEREAS, the Division of Science and Mathematics proposes the following specific criteria to satisfy those agreements: e students will complete the basic science and mathematics requirement here at the University of the Virgin Islands (approximately three years of study); e students will complete the engineering requirements at either Washington University in St. Louis or Columbia University in New York (approximately two years of study); e students on satisfactory completion of both the basic science and mathematics requirement at the University of the Virgin Islands and the engineering requirements at either Washington or Columbia University will be awarded two degrees, one of which will be from the University of the Virgin Islands and one of which will be from the collaborating institution; e the degree awarded by the University of the Virgin Islands will be the Bachelor’s of Science degree in Applied Mathematics; e only students accepted in and completing the engineering requirements at the participating schools will be awarded the degree of Bachelor’s of Science in Applied Mathematics; e students who begin the collaborative degree program but do not choose to continue on to the collaborating school may be awarded any other degree for which they satisfy University of the Virgin Islands requirements but not the Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics; B.S. Degree in Applied Math Page 2 WHEREAS, the faculty of the Division of Science and Mathematics approved this proposal on January 27, 2000, and WHEREAS, the Curriculum Committee approved this proposal on October 26, 2000, and WHEREAS, the faculty approved this proposal on November 2, 2000, and WHEREAS, the Cabinet approved this proposal on February 27, 2001, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees approves a collaborative Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics with Washington University or Columbia University at the University of the Virgin Islands effective immediately. CERTIFICATION The undersigned does hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and exact copy of the resolution of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands adopted at its meeting on March 24, 2001 and recorded in the minutes of said meeting.
