UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION PURPOSE: _ To approve a change in the name and scope of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees in 1996 created the Academic and Student Affairs Committee to “review and recommend programs and personnel policies integral to fulfilling the academic mission of the University and assuring high quality student life”, and WHEREAS, the Academic and Student Affairs Committee has now extended oversight to programs and policies in the research and outreach areas, including but not limited to the programs of the Agricultural Experiment Station, the Cooperative Extension Service, the Center for Marine and Environmental Studies, the Community and Personnel Development Unit, and the Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, and WHEREAS there is general consensus that the name, Academic and Student Affairs, and the scope of the committee as described in the by-laws, no longer accurately reflects the current and future scope of the Committee, …

UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS BOARD OF TRUSTEES RESOLUTION PURPOSE: _ To approve a change in the name and scope of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees in 1996 created the Academic and Student Affairs Committee to “review and recommend programs and personnel policies integral to fulfilling the academic mission of the University and assuring high quality student life”, and WHEREAS, the Academic and Student Affairs Committee has now extended oversight to programs and policies in the research and outreach areas, including but not limited to the programs of the Agricultural Experiment Station, the Cooperative Extension Service, the Center for Marine and Environmental Studies, the Community and Personnel Development Unit, and the Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, and WHEREAS there is general consensus that the name, Academic and Student Affairs, and the scope of the committee as described in the by-laws, no longer accurately reflects the current and future scope of the Committee, and WHEREAS, the members of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee were charged with the responsibility of developing a more suitable name and having been polled for that purpose have suggested the name “Academic, Research and Student Affairs”, NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: The Board of Trustees approves a change in name from “The Academic and Student Affairs Committee” to “The Academic, Research and Student Affairs Committee’’, and amends Article VI Section I Number 2 to reflect this change, and The Board of Trustees approves a change in the scope of the Committee to, “shall review and recommend programs and personnel policies integral to fulfilling the academic, research and outreach missions of the University and ensuring high quality student life’, and amends Article VI Section I Number 2 to reflect this change. CERTIFICATION The undersigned does hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and exact copy of the resolution of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands adopted at its meeting on October 18, 2003 and recorded in the minutes of said meeting. .
