DANISH WEST INDIES. Quarantine against Cartagena on account of smallpox. Department of State, Washington , D. 0., February 25 , 1902 . Sir : I have the honor to inform you that in his dispatch of the 11th instant, the minister to Denmark writes that the Government of the Danish West Indies has declared a quarantine of fifteen days against vessels arriving from Cartagena, Colombia, owing to the appear- ance of the smallpox at that port, and that that Government has raised the quarantine formerly declared against ships coming from Cuba. Respectfully, John Hay, Secretary of State . Hon. Secretary of the Treasury. ENGLAND. Reports from Liverpool . Liverpool, England, February 8 , 1902. Sir : I have the honor to state that for the week ended February 8, 1902, there were reported to the Liverpool health authorities, 32 cases of smallpox (10 from vessels from Boston, Mass., 9 who had been in contact with these cases, and 3 where the source of infection has not been traced) ; 24 cases of enteric fever ; 96 scarlet fever ; 26 diphtheria, and 13 measles.
