The error on the part of the Porto Rico Progress is possibly due to the accounts which appeared in the St. Thomas pa- pers concerning this murder and exe- sution in Tor‘ola. At first we suppos- ed that there might be a parish in Tor- tola named St. Thomas, but this is found not to be the case. ~ED. ST. CROIX AVIS. St. Thomas News. We regret to learn that Postmaster Streich will be leaving shortly, probably next week, for Washington where pro- motion awaits him, This information leaves us a most interesting question on which to ponder. Wl;at manner of man will his successor be? It wil be remembéred that- when Postmaster Striech arrived at this island he found the Post Office in any other condition than that in which he is now leaving it. Being a man of energy—of the type of Cronin and Duurtoo— Mr Striech did not waver, but just threw his energy into his job. Beyond a doubt Mr. Striech’s popu- larity has proved what the relations can be between St. Thomians and any Gov- ernment official who is fair-minded and industrions. Respect begets respect. Alfred Needal age 29 a aative of Guadeloupe was complained by Caroline Frett for practicing obeah in an effort to take off a jumby that was placed on the complainant, Judge G. W. Williams after listening patigntly to the defen- dant, warned him of his foolish and malicious occupation and expressed a determination to stamp out from the island this practice wherever found.
