London, March 17th.—Introducing the naval estimates in the House of Com- mons today, Mr. Walter Long said that the Govt. was firmly adhering .o the traditional policy that th enavy shou.d not be inferior to the navies of other powers. Then alluding to the United Stat:s as the only country whose navy approached that of Great Britain in strength, he said that the idea of competition in zrma- mants between the United States and Great Britain was repugnant, adding, ‘““We hope and helieve that if thare is any emulation between us, it is likely to be in reaching a decision for redicing th:t ample amount of naval strength which we alike possess over other naval powers.
