ACT NO. 80 BILL NO. 32-0148 THIRTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Regular Session 2018 An Act amending title | Virgin Islands Code, chapter 11 by adding section 200i establishing the month of May as Virgin Islands Stroke Awareness Month ---0)--- WHEREAS, stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States of America and a leading cause of adult disability; and WHEREAS, in the United States about 795,000 people have a stroke cach year; and WHEREAS, African Americans are two times more likely to have a stroke than other races; and WHEREAS, the Tervitory’s population is primarily people of African descent, and the incidence of stroke in the Virgin Islands is also high; and WHEREAS, up to 80 percent of strokes are preventable with proper education and recognition of signs and symptoms; and WHEREAS, National Stroke Awareness Month is observed in the United States annually during the month of May; and WHEREAS, began In May 1989, National Stroke Awareness Month began, after President George H.
