ST.«CROIX STATION. | Barbados, Sept. 9th—Yesterday morn- ~ ing opz2ned with rain accompanied by - stroog winds which gradualiy increased ~until about 10a m. when it biew with greater force. Trees in manv places lost some of their branchz2s and in others they were wholly upturned. The waves broke at ten fathoms of water in Carli- sle Bay. S. S. Guiana and Canadian Beaver put out to sea on account of the unsafe conditions of the harbour. Con- siderable damage is reported to have been done inland, by the high winds but par- ticulars are not yet to hand. One tele- graph pole was blown down about four miles from town. : Barbados, Sept. 9th— Bar. 29.97 wind S. E. sea stiil rough. Guiana and Cana- dian Beaver not yet returned to port, weather clear St. Vineent, Sept. 9th.—From about 4. 30 p. m. yesrerday it started to blow a gale from N. R., st.te that telegravh and telephone comm unication with Ponce and Mayaguez is interrupted, the last news - from Ponce at 10 p. m. yesterday saying the force of the wind was then terriblé, It is jreported that Humacao and Yabu- cao have suftered some damage .and many lighters and tow boats sunk. It is believed the storm passed Porto Rico during the night with increased inten- sity and considerably spread in extent and much closer to the island than was expected. No word has et been re- ceived from Ponce by cable and cable communication north of San Juan is tem- porarily saspended by all routes. Dominiea, - Sept. 10th.—Heavy seas which were experienced here yesterday caused serious damage to the Jetties and Seaboard both at Roseau and Ports- mouth. Some houses at Portsmouth also suffered. A motor launch was sunk in the roadstead oi Roseau, all other craft having left the day before for safer anchorages. Barbados, Sept. 10th —The damage done by the weather on Thursday was extensive.
