Ist Member for Frederiksted Town (Coulter) remarked: Mr. Chairman. 1 would like to sav that it is not quite fair that the responsibilitygof the explanation should fzll upon thef Honorable 2nd Mamber for Chrisiiansted Town alone. We may call upon him gs well as the other four mewmbears of the sub Commit- tee to explain. 3rd Memobper for Frederiksted Country Distriet (M. M. Skeoch) remarked: Mr. Chairman. 1 know of no one more capa- ble to explain the matter than the Hon- orable 2nd Member for Christianstad Town: however, as you wish i, the Hon- orable 4th Appointed slember may also give elucidations on it. 4th Appointed Member (Blacizwood) remarked: Mr. Chairman. There seems to b> some misunderstanding. I propos- ed that 2nd Member for Christiansted Town give an explanation. Every Mem- ber jof the sub-Committee has worked faithfully and have made every effort ‘o meet with the desires of Government, but at the same time we cannot squeeze blood out of stone; we cannot pay more taxes than we are paying at present. 1 think we have been fair and conscien- tious and have tried to work in harmony with Government. 1 cannot see liow we can do more than we have done, 2rd Member for Christiansted Country District (Robt.
