Athens, October 2b6th.--King Alexan- der died this evening at 5.20. His de?th | was due to wounds which he had Te- Jceived in an attack on him by a pet- monkey early in Uctober, the King be- ing badly mutilated. The death of King Alexander gives rise to the question of suc- cession to the ‘ireek throne., The names of ex-King Constantine, Prince Paul, Con- stantine’s third son and Prince Arthur of Connaught and Prince Charles of Bel gium have ail been mentioned as possi- ble candidates for -the Greek throne. London, Oct. 25th.—The Jockey Club has declared all racing off this week on account of the strike and consequent- ly the Combridgeshire stakes at New Market wiil not be run on Wednescay next. New York, Oct. 26th.—Refined sugar was quoted at 11 to 12 cents per pound wholesale here this morning. The retail 'orice showed a wide variation, the up- town grocer asking from 14 to 17 cents while several chain store companies offered it to the public at 12 to 13 cents. Montreal, Oct. 25th.—It was announc- ed this afternoon by four sugar refiners, the Canada, Atlantie, Le Lawrence and Arcadia, that the price of granulated su- gar would be immediatly reduced 2c. per pound from 1944t0 17.90 cents less 5 per cent, which makes the amount received by the refiners for the sugar approxi- mately 13 c¢ts. a pound. The Dominions’ Sugar Company. which chiefly hamdles beet sugar at present, has reduced its price to 16 cents a pound which further complicates the position and makes the price of granulated sugar less secure.
