October 8 U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS—Americans with Disabilities Act Territorial Coordinator Julien Henley hosted a “Ticket to Work” seminar at the Virgin Islands Department of Human Services Conference Room on St. Thomas on Tuesday to help residents learn about the Social Security Administration’s “Ticket to Work” program that is aimed at helping disabled Americans find employment. A similar seminar is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Red Cross at 6035 Castle Coakley on St. Croix. Complimentary lunch is provided. Social Security’s Ticket to Work free program supports career development for Social Security disability beneficiaries ages 18-64 who want to work and helps people with disabilities progress toward financial independence. The program offers beneficiaries with disabilities access to meaningful employment with the assistance of Ticket to Work employment service providers called employment networks. The seminars came about through a partnership between the Social Security Administration, the Office of the Governor and the Disability Rights Center of the Virgin Islands. Participating agencies include the Disability Rights Center; Vocational & Rehabilitation Services; the Virgin Islands Department of Labor; Movimiento para el Alcance de Vida Independiente (MAVI/WIPA); and Alianza Municipal de Servicios Integrados (AMSI).
