A team of researchers from the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) is leading the Human Services Research Partnership in the US Virgin Islands (USVI). WHAT? The Human Services Research Partnerships: US Virgin Islands (HSRP-VI) is one of two projects that the Administration for Children and Families has funded. The money is to help local researchers, community members, program participants, and staff from the V.I. Department of Human Services conduct research studies to help improve the quality of services for persons in the USVI who receive Head Start/Early Head Start and/or TANF benefits. WHEN? The project has been funded for three (3) years: 2014—2017. We are in Year 3 of the project. WHERE? The HSRP-VI leadership work at the University of the Virgin Islands on St. Thomas and St. Croix. The Partnership’s work takes place across the Territory — in both districts: St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John. WHY? The federal government has provided funding to support the HSRP-VI to define and address research questions about the social and economic well-being of children and families in the USVI. The work of the HSRP-VI is intended to strengthen research and increase our understanding of HS/EHS and TANF programs to eventually improve quality of life in the USVI. HOW? The work of the HSRP-VI is being done through a partner- ship that includes researchers, the local government, and community- based organizations. The partnership will use information from program participants, staff, and other providers to define and address key research questions. The research will help to improve human services and quality of life in the USVI. The Partnership is being assisted by both Head Start and TANF consultants. The core research team will be engaged in the completion of four research projects in Year 3.
