January 5 U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — Governor Albert Bryan Jr. has issued proclamations recognizing two significant observances in January 2026 that reflect the values of service, education, and community across the United States Virgin Islands. In observance of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Governor Bryan has proclaimed Monday, January 19, 2026, as “Martin Luther King, Jr. Day” in the United States Virgin Islands. The third Monday in January is a legal holiday in the Territory and is recognized nationwide as a National Day of Service. Since 1994, millions of Americans have been inspired by the life and work of Dr. King to serve their neighbors and strengthen their communities. Martin Luther King Jr. Day offers an opportunity for residents to give back on the holiday itself and to recommit to a spirit of service throughout the year. In issuing the proclamation under the authority vested in him by the Revised Organic Act of 1954, as amended, Governor Bryan called upon the people of the Virgin Islands to pay tribute to Dr. King’s enduring legacy by participating in community service projects on January 19 and beyond. Governor Bryan has also proclaimed Sunday, January 25, 2026, through Saturday, January 31, 2026, as “National Catholic Schools Week” in the United States Virgin Islands. National Catholic Schools Week is celebrated across the U.S. mainland and U.S. territories to highlight the important role Catholic education plays in academic excellence, faith formation, and community development. The Territory is home to four Catholic schools: Sts. Peter and Paul School on St. Thomas, and St. Mary’s, St. Patrick’s, and St. Joseph Catholic Schools on St. Croix. Through this proclamation, the Governor expressed appreciation for the outstanding work being done by these institutions and their educators in shaping the minds and character of Virgin Islands youth. Governor Bryan urged all residents to recognize and applaud the significant contributions Catholic schools make toward the development of children and young people, as well as their positive impact on the broader community. Together, these January proclamations underscore the Virgin Islands’ commitment to honoring service, leadership, and education as cornerstones of a strong and compassionate society. # # # TAGS No tags CATEGORIES Uncategorized Previous Next Comments are closed © 2026 Government of the United States Virgin Islands.
