RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Purpose: To approve a Master of Arts degree program in Educational Leadership. WHEREAS, the Master of Arts degree program in Education with the concentration in Educational Leadership offered by the University’s School of Education no longer satisfies the requirements of the Board of Education and the Department of Education (the DOE) for certification in leadership positions in the DOE; and WHEREAS, the School of Education proposes to eliminate the Master of Arts degree program in Education with the concentration in Educational Leadership and replace it with the Master of Arts degree program in Educational Leadership; and WHEREAS, the establishment of a Master of Arts degree program in Educational Leadership would provide additional courses in the areas of school law, school finance, special education, and technology currently required by the V.I. …

RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES UNIVERSITY OF THE VIRGIN ISLANDS Purpose: To approve a Master of Arts degree program in Educational Leadership. WHEREAS, the Master of Arts degree program in Education with the concentration in Educational Leadership offered by the University’s School of Education no longer satisfies the requirements of the Board of Education and the Department of Education (the DOE) for certification in leadership positions in the DOE; and WHEREAS, the School of Education proposes to eliminate the Master of Arts degree program in Education with the concentration in Educational Leadership and replace it with the Master of Arts degree program in Educational Leadership; and WHEREAS, the establishment of a Master of Arts degree program in Educational Leadership would provide additional courses in the areas of school law, school finance, special education, and technology currently required by the V.I. Board of Education for graduate students seeking certification for leadership positions such as principal and assistant principal; and WHEREAS, on November 25, 2014, the School of Education approved the establishment of the Master of Arts degree program in Educational Leadership; and WHEREAS, on March 20, 2015, the Graduate Council of the University approved the Master of Arts degree program in Educational Leadership; and WHEREAS, on December 3, 2015, the faculty of the University approved the Master of Arts degree program in Educational Leadership; and WHEREAS, on May 16, 2016, the Academic Research and Student Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees voted to recommend to the Board of Trustees the establishment of the Master of Arts degree program in Educational Leadership. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE UNIVERSITY THAT: 1. The elimination of the Master of Arts in Education with the concentration in Educational Leadership and the establishment, in its place, of the Master of Arts degree program in Educational Leadership is hereby approved. 2. The President is authorized to take such action as is necessary to implement this resolution. 3. This resolution shall become effective June 4, 2016. CERTIFICATION The undersigned hereby certifies that the foregoing is a true and exact copy of a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the University of the Virgin Islands and adopted at its meeting on Saturday, June 4, 2016, as recorded in the minutes of the said meeting.
