UVI PRESS RELEASE DATE: April 6, 2016 For immediate release UVI’s 5th Annual Research Day to Showcase University Studies The University of the Virgin Islands will host the 5th Annual Research Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 15, in the Great Hall on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix and at the University’s Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas Campus. Research Day provides UVI students, faculty and staff the opportunity to showcase their research, all of which highlights diverse topics that impact the community. “We are looking forward to seeing the territory’s high school juniors and seniors excited and intrigued by the amazing and advanced research happening in the Virgin Islands at their University,” Vice Provost for Research and Public Service Dr. Frank Mills said. “Research Day presents an occasion to many in the community who would not have a chance to witness many of these research topics. …

UVI PRESS RELEASE DATE: April 6, 2016 For immediate release UVI’s 5th Annual Research Day to Showcase University Studies The University of the Virgin Islands will host the 5th Annual Research Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 15, in the Great Hall on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix and at the University’s Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas Campus. Research Day provides UVI students, faculty and staff the opportunity to showcase their research, all of which highlights diverse topics that impact the community. “We are looking forward to seeing the territory’s high school juniors and seniors excited and intrigued by the amazing and advanced research happening in the Virgin Islands at their University,” Vice Provost for Research and Public Service Dr. Frank Mills said. “Research Day presents an occasion to many in the community who would not have a chance to witness many of these research topics. It also allows people to interact directly with the researchers themselves.” During the event University research is shared via roundtable discussions and poster presentations, which allow the general public to have one-on-one interactions with researchers. This year there are 35 registered poster presentations, roundtables and demonstrations on the Sheen Campus and 77 on the St. Thomas Campus. Roundtable topics on St. Thomas include: · Safe-sexting · Racial Profiling · Marine Disease Management · Effective Social Media Use in the VI · An Analysis on High School Music Students coming to UVI · Sexual Selection and its Relation to Isolative Reproduction in Three-spine Stickleback. On St. Croix, roundtable topics include: · Racism: “Where Do We Go from Here?” · Mathematical Modeling of Water Quality From 2012-2017, UVI has been following its strategic plan titled “Pathways to Greatness.” One of the goals of the “Pathways to Greatness” plan is expanding innovative research by getting faculty and undergraduate students involved in an effort to achieve greatness. With this goal in mind, UVI Research Day has now become a cornerstone for the University. Portions of this event will be broadcast live on WUVI AM 1090 / FM 97.3, streamed online and recorded for re-airing by the University's student radio station.
