THE VIRGIN ISLANDS POLICE DEPARTMENT “To Protect and Serve” Office of the Commissioner VIPD NEWS RELEASE - 112823-365 For Immediate Media Distribution November 28, 2023 Traffic Stop for Heavily Tinted Windshield Resulted in the Discovery of Illegal Firearm St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – On Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 4:39 p.m., Officers of the Special Operations Bureau (SOB) were on patrol in Frederiksted Town, on Emancipation Drive vicinity of Loops when a gray Chevy Cruze was observed being operated with heavily tinted front windshield which passed the AS1 line. When officers stopped the vehicle, a strong odor of what appeared to be marijuana emanated from inside of the vehicle. A search was conducted of the Chevy Cruze and as a result, a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine and an obliterated serial number was recovered along with several clear mason jars and clear sandwich bags containing what appeared to be marijuana.
