Receipt is acknowledged with thanks of four pamphlets published by the Unit- ed States Healt~ Service, and sent us through the kindness of, Dr. Rydeen who informs us that it is the aim to distribute this literature as widely as possible on the island. The subjects of which these pamphlets treat are: The Care of the Baby; The Transmission of Disease by Flies; Safe Milk ; and the Summer Care of Infants. CRUIX STATION, London Oct. 10th.—As a result of the recen: railway strike and the gencral labour situation, strong efforts are again being made to organize a triounsi eaipow- ered to arbitrate all industria!l disputes. The acticn of the transport workers lead- ers in taking up their role as mediators in the recent strike has given impetus (o a movement to propose the revival of the Industrial Council, appointed by Mr. Lloyd George last Spring. lihis Council failed 1o prove effective as an arbitration board, owing to the refusal of the “triple aliiance’’ comprising the railway- men, transport woikers and miners to accept membership in it. Pressure is now being brouziit upon this “‘triple al- liance’’ to reconsider its former attitude. The ' Neutral’’” Chairman originally pro- posed for the counecil, has not yet been appointed. 1t is said ot to he unlikely that the choice for this position will be Sir David Shackelton, who as permanen: Secretary of the Minister of Labour, is considered to possess qualifications for the position, and to enjoy the confidence both of the employers and eniployees.
