QUICK CHECKLIST Are you 65 or older? Are you a U.S Citizen or a permanent legal resident for 5+ years Have you received SSDI for at least 24 months? Do you have ALS or ESRD? DISABILITY & SPECIAL CASES Disability People under 65 qualify for Medicare after 24 months of SSDI benefits. Those with specific disabilities like ALS qualify immediately for Medicare upon receiving SSDI. End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) Individuals with permanent kidney failure needing dialysis or a transplant can qualify at any age. Age 65 or Older Most people become eligible for Medicare at age 65. You must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent legal resident who has lived in the United States for at least five continuous years. Under 65 You may qualify if you have a qualifying disability or specific medical conditions.
