CLiulX STATION London, Feb. 18:h. —Great Briraio awoke this morninz to the. reality of the dock strike when ccrtain morning newspapers apologized for their reduced size on the plea that the reduction whs made 1n erder ‘0 conserve paper. Tha confident announcement is | made this morning in semi-official cir- | cles that there will not be any shortage | of foodstuffs for some cays to come, | and this, it is expected, will check any | widespread movement to hoard, al- | thougzh shop keepers are aiready refusing to sell large quantities of staples, weat prices, however, are already siightly advanced in some district and these are likely to show the first general | inerease of foods before the end of the | present week. With the exception of | the little group that believes that ali Labour troubles in Great DBritain origina.e and are directed from Moscow, there | is little perturbation over the strike, and looks as if there was a large body of pub- | liec cpinion that is in sympathy with the efforts of the dockers to obtain conces- | sions, remembering the revelations wilh | regard to living conditions of a similar | class of workers that were made during the inquiry which resuited in- Lord i Shaw’s report.
