WIIBEREAS, by virtue of the Treaty of Cession- entered into on August 4, 1916, between the United States of America and Denmark, the sovereign rights there- tofore exercised by Denmark over the Danish West Indies passed to the Uni- ted States in accordance with the terms thereof ; and WHEREAS, by virtue of Section 1 of the Act of Congress approved March 3, 1917, entitled ‘‘An Act to Provide for a Temporary Government of the Virgin Islands of the United States’’ all mili- tary, civil and judicial powers nece:sary to govern the said Islands are vested in the (Governor thereof; and WHEREAS, by [£xecutive Order, No. 12, dated April 22, 1920, made under the au- thority of the aforesaid Act of Congress, approved by the President of the United States on June 18, 1920, and promulga- -~ ted at St. Thomas, Virgin Islands of the United States on June 22, 1920, the temn~ porary law of the Danish Rigsdag con- firme# October 2, 1914, was abrogated effective on and after August 23, 1920, and it was decreed that Section 1 and Section 3of the Danish Law confirmed March 29, 1904. shall, upon such abroga- tion becoming effective, stand in full force and effect ; and WHEREAS, the Nationai Bank of the Danish West Indies has made representa- tions to the Government of the United Qtates that on aecount of the difficulties and delays incident to communication, it will find great difficulty in complying with the aforesaid Executive Order on its elective date, and has requested that the effective date of the said Executive ANSTED., V. 1. A., SATURDAY 21st AUGUST 1920. 9 198, Order be extended for a period of sixty days; and WHEREAS, the Naiionai Bank of the Danish West Indies has made further representations concerning the scarcity of gold coin of Danis) West Indian mint- age with which to redeem its notes : Now, THEREFORE, I, J. W. Oman, Gov- ernor of th2 Virgin Islands of the United States, acting under the authority of the aforesaid Act of Congress, do hereby ex- tend the date uponvgrhich the aforesaid Executive Order No. 12 shall become ef- fective and fix Octoler 25, 1920, as the definitive date on gld after which the said Urder sha'l be :ffective. And I further desree that the afore- said Executive Ordér No. 12 be and it is hereby so far modifiad that the National Bank of the Danish West Indies, in ful- filling its obligation to redeem its aotes on and after Octob:r 25, 1920, may re- deem such notes asare presented at its principal office in st. Thomas either in gold coin of the Dagish West Indies or, at the fixed rate ¢f 96.5 cents United States for 5 franes Danish, in United States coin or curreiicy, including United States gold coins, silver, nickel anl bronze coins, gold and silver certificates, notes issued by the United States and notes issued through or by the Federal reserve barks and by the National Banks of the United States; provided, however, that United States gold coins may be used in redeeming the aforesaid notes only if such coins be within the iegal limit of toleramce in regard to fineness and weight as provided in Sections 3535, 8536 and 3637 of che Revised Statutes ; N \Ww7y), P\ HEAH@%‘ Int w BREE s (RON o FOR RED.-BLOOD, STRENGTH. *ANDENDURANCE ..o DISTRIBUTORS: APOTHECARY HALL, ST. THOMAS. of the United States, and that Uni- ted States subsidiary silver, nickel and bronze coins may be used only up to the respective .mounts for which such eoins are legal tender under the laws of the United States. Except so fsgr as herein modified, the aforesaid Exetutive Order No. 12 shall remain in full lorce and effcet. At the expiration of the month of August the list of arrears will be for- warded to the Sheriff for further meas- ures.
