November 20 Clarifies misinformation on payment cutoff November 20, 2020 | 10:22 AM U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS – Governor Albert Bryan Jr. and Bureau of Internal Revenue Director Joel Lee remind taxpayers in the territory wanting to receive a CARES ACT Stimulus payment to file their 2018 income tax returns or 2018 form 1040 by the filing deadline on November 21. The governor also reiterated that Saturday, November 21, is the deadline for eligible tax filers to file a return with the Bureau to obtain the stimulus check and not the date with which the last payments will be made. The BIR will continue making CARES ACT Stimulus payments until December 31, 2020, contrary to reports that the BIR will discontinue those payments on November 21st. Under the CARES Act, taxpayers are eligible for an Economic Impact Payment (stimulus) of $1,200 for individual or head of household filers and $2,400 for married residents who file joint returns so long as they are not claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return, have valid Social Security numbers, have no income or have income that does not exceed the required thresholds. Taxpayers who miss the November 21st deadline will be able to claim the Economic Impact Payment on their 2020 income tax return. To date, the Bureau of Internal Revenue and the Department of Finance has processed $79,491,778 in CARES Act Stimulus payments to 47,395 residents in the U.S. Virgin Islands. For additional information contact the Bureau of Internal Revenue at (340) 773-1040 in St. Croix and (340) 715-1040 in St. Thomas, or visit their website at bir.vi.gov. #### TAGS No tags CATEGORIES Uncategorized Previous Next Comments are closed © 2026 Government of the United States Virgin Islands.
