Mr. Moyer. of the American Soda Fountain, sent a freezer full too, and cake galore—cake with pink frosting, and choeolate frost- ing, and white frosting, a piece or two for every boy and girl. They just had all the ice cream and cake they could hold. But a Christmas would not be complete without old Santa Claus, and, true to form, he appeared—with his ‘‘tummy as big as a bowl full of jelly.”” Some of his little friends were not anxious to shake hands with him at first, but afterward they did. Some of the boys said that they kanew him, but Santa Claus thinks that they were only guessing. How those children did sing, ‘‘Onward Christian Soldiers !”” It was fine indeed. After this song, they marched up to the trees where they were given the bags of candy and toys. The affair was beauti- fully successful and it was accomplished by plenty of hard work, some of the la- dies workeda part of Christmas Day, and all of the day following. The American s s. ‘‘Dade County,”’ Capt. A. Gronli, from Bahia, Brazil, with Een’eral cargo for New York, arrived ere on Tuesday the 30th. for bunker oil, supplied by the W. I. Co. Ltd. Apart from her regular crew, she had on board the crew (some 40 all told) of the Amer- ican s. s. ‘‘Benvola’’, which was recent- ly wrecked off the Brazilian coast wi:h a cargo of 5000 tons petroleum in cases. The men have been taken care of here and are being housed, some at the Hotel American and others at the Grand.— St. Thomas Mail Notes Jan. 3rd. The U. S. S. Gulfport is expected to arrive Janvary 9.
